Best Michigan Sports Betting Apps for 2026
Michigan got online sports betting up and running on January 22, 2021. The state had passed the law in December 2019 and opened in-person sportsbooks at Detroit’s three casinos a year earlier, but the it was the Apps that really changed things for most people. You can now bet from your phone anywhere in the state.
Twelve operators hold a Michigan license, regulated by the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB). The four below take the bulk of the action and are the ones I use most. The four after them are smaller or newer arrivals, but all four are fully licensed and worth knowing about depending on how you like to bet.
The four betting apps I use most when in MI
1. DraftKings
DraftKings was one of the apps that went live on day one and has stayed at the top of the Michigan market ever since. The same-game parlay builder is quick, the live betting screen keeps up during fast-moving NFL and NBA games, and Michigan was one of the first states to allow micro-betting (small wagers on the next play or pitch) when DraftKings rolled it out in April 2026.
- Welcome offer: bet $5, get $200 in bonus bets if your first bet wins (T&Cs apply)
- Sports: NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, soccer, college football and basketball, plus minor sports
- Banking: deposits are instant with debit cards and PayPal, withdrawals usually clear within a day
- Best for: in-play betting
Full breakdown in my DraftKings review.
2. FanDuel
FanDuel takes the most bets in Michigan most months, and it’s the app I’d hand to anyone new to sports betting. The layout makes sense straight away, building parlays is quick, and the live odds keep up well on busy NFL Sundays.
- Welcome offer: bet $5, get up to $300 in bonus bets daily for 10 days (T&Cs apply)
- Sports: every major US sport plus tennis, golf, MMA, and soccer
- Banking: most withdrawals land within 24 hours
- Best for: new bettors

3. BetMGM
BetMGM is the one to pick if you already use MGM Rewards. Every wager earns points you can spend at MGM hotels and restaurants across the country. In Michigan it operates through MGM Grand Detroit, and the Detroit Lions sponsorship brings extra promos and boosted odds during NFL season.
- Welcome offer: bet $10, get $150 in bonus bets if your first bet wins, plus $50 in MGM Rewards points (T&Cs apply)
- Sports: NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, college, plus European soccer
- Banking: PayPal and online bank transfer pay out fastest
- Best for: people who stay at MGM properties
Full breakdown in my BetMGM review.
4. Caesars
Caesars operates in Michigan through Greektown Casino in Detroit and Kewadin Casinos up north. It picked up the old WynnBET license in 2024. The app is easy to find your way around, the Caesars Rewards program is the same one used at every Caesars property nationwide, and you’ll see regular profit boosts and odds boosts in your inbox after signing up.
- Welcome offer: first bet up to $1,500 returned as a bonus bet if it loses (T&Cs apply)
- Sports: the four big US leagues, college, plus tennis, golf, and combat sports
- Banking: PayPal and online bank transfer are quickest; debit card withdrawals take longer
- Best for: regular bettors who like ongoing promos

Four more apps worth a place on your phone
These four don’t pull the same numbers as the top four, but every one holds a current MGCB license, are legit and each has a genuine reason to be on this list.
5. theScore Bet
theScore Bet replaced ESPN BET in December 2025 when Penn Entertainment retired the ESPN brand. The integration with The Score sports app is the main draw if you already use it for scores and news. If you had an ESPN BET account, your balance, login, and any open bets moved across automatically.
- Sports: all major US leagues, college, plus international soccer
- Best for: people who already use The Score app for scores and news
More in my theScore Bet review.
6. BetRivers
BetRivers was one of the original Michigan launch apps and is run by Rush Street Interactive. The iRush Rewards program is solid for regular bettors, and the app has a long-standing reputation for fast payouts on PayPal.
- Sports: all major US leagues, college, plus tennis and golf
- Best for: loyalty rewards for regular bettors
7. Fanatics Sportsbook
Fanatics launched in Michigan on February 23, 2026 after PointsBet exited the US and migrated its accounts across. The app links to FanCash, which you can spend at the Fanatics merchandise store, so it’s a fit if you buy a lot of jerseys or team gear anyway.
- Sports: all major US leagues plus growing international coverage
- Best for: anyone who already shops at Fanatics
8. Hard Rock Bet
Hard Rock Bet launched in Michigan on December 2, 2025 after Hard Rock acquired 888’s American sportsbook business. The Unity rewards program covers Hard Rock properties worldwide if you travel or stay at their hotels and casinos.
- Sports: all major US leagues plus international soccer
- Best for: Hard Rock Unity loyalty members
A note on the remaining four betting apps
Michigan currently has twelve licensed apps in total. Four are tribal or smaller regional operators I haven’t tested personally, so I’ve left them out of this guide rather than list them blind. The MGCB keeps a current list on its website if you want the full set.
What you can bet on
Most major sports are fair game in Michigan: NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, UFC, golf, tennis, soccer, and college football and basketball. The rules around betting on in-state college teams (Michigan, Michigan State, and the smaller MI college programs) have been moving around in 2025 and 2026, so check the MGCB site or your chosen app’s restricted-markets list before placing those wagers.
What’s clearly off-limits:
- High school sports at any level
- Wagers on individual college players (you can usually bet on the team to win or cover the spread, but not on a player’s stats)
- Politics and award shows
Tax on what you win
Sports betting winnings count as income. You report them on both your federal and state tax returns. Federal tax of 24% gets held back automatically if you win at 300-to-1 or longer odds and the payout is over $600.
The 8.4% tax rate you’ll see quoted is paid by the operators on the money they make, not by you. Michigan does let you deduct your gambling losses on your state return, but only if you itemize on your federal return.
Signing up
It’s the same five-minute job at every licensed app:
- Download from the App Store or Google Play, or sign up on the website
- Give your name, address, date of birth, and the last four digits of your Social Security Number
- The app checks your identity (usually instant)
- Deposit and claim the welcome offer
You have to be 21 or older. You also have to be physically in Michigan when you place a bet. Geolocation runs every time you wager, VPNs don’t work, and using one will get your account locked.
Other state guides
If you bet outside Michigan as well, my New Jersey betting apps guide covers the second-biggest legal market in the US, where the college rules are tighter than Michigan’s.
Frequently asked questions
A few of the questions I get asked most often about betting in Michigan.
Is sports betting legal in Michigan?
Yes. Michigan passed the law in December 2019. In-person sportsbooks opened in March 2020 and apps went live on January 22, 2021. The Michigan Gaming Control Board runs the licensing.
How old do I need to be?
21 or older. That’s the legal minimum at every licensed Michigan app, and there’s no way around it. You’ll need to verify your age at signup with your name, date of birth, and the last four digits of your Social Security Number. The check is usually instant, and the apps run it before you can deposit or place a bet.
How many licensed sports betting apps are there in Michigan?
Twelve, as of mid-2026. The MGCB website keeps the current list.
Can I bet on Michigan or Michigan State?
The rules around in-state college teams have shifted recently. Check the MGCB site or your app’s restricted markets before placing those bets.
Do I have to pay tax on what I win?
Yes. Sports betting winnings are taxable as income, both federally and in Michigan. Apps send you a tax form for the bigger wins. Smaller wins are on you to report.
Can I use the same login if I’m in another state?
Most apps let you keep one account, but you can only place a wager while you’re physically inside a state where that operator is licensed. Geolocation enforces it every time you bet.
Which app pays out fastest?
It’s more about which way you withdraw than which app. PayPal and online bank transfer are the quickest, usually within a day at the major Michigan apps. Debit card withdrawals can take three to five working days.
